Percentages

So I was thinking about that to blog about and I like to write about how to make things easier. I decided I always struggle with percentages so I wanted to dig a little to find some easy ways to figure it out.

Math.com says that percent means "out of 100."

So when you figure out percent it is always out of 100. For example, lets take 7% out of 400.
  • 7% of the first hundred is 7.
  • 7% of the second hundred is 7.
  • 7% of the third hundred is 7.
and finally
  • 7% of the forth hundred is 7.
Add all the 7's together and you get 48, so 7% of 400 is 48%.

4% of 50..... 4% of 100 is 4 then divide by 2.....2
8% of 250.....8 + 8 + 4 = 20
15% of 300...15 + 15 + 15 = 45

I also I found out that you can always flip percents, like 4% of 100 is the same as 100% of 4.

35% of 8 i the same as 8% of 35.

These tricks I found really help me understand how to figure out percentages better. It can really help anyone work percentages on the fly better. I know it will be useful when I try to figure tipping at restaurants.
